New In The 2019 Edition Of Office 365
Microsoft launched the newest version of Office 365 on September 24, 2018. Users were naturally intrigued and couldn’t wait to see all the new features in this latest version. So let’s dig in and see what all the hype is about.
PowerPoint: Advanced Presentation Features
PowerPoint is still a favorite among users when it comes to presentations. The program has been fine-tuned to make it even more user-friendly. It also has some new tools that should make your presentations more professional-looking.
Microsoft is trying to stay competitive with tech-savvy programs like Prezi. With new animation features like Morph and Zoom, PowerPoint will help you create dynamic, professional slide shows. The new tools are easy to use, so there won’t be a painful learning curve.
Excel: Data Analysis
Nobody has been able to come close to matching the high level of data management and analysis found in Excel. Microsoft is always tweaking its products. The new 2019 version of Excel includes new charts, new formulas and a few more enhancements.
You can now publish from Excel to Power BI. There are improvements to PowerQuery and PowerPivot. As always, Excel is an important tool to have around any office. It can tackle the toughest formulas and the most complex data sets.
Pen Computing: Improved Inking Features
Microsoft has updated its stylus/pen to provide better pen computing features. Now you’ll enjoy much easier use of your digital pen so you can create amazing designs and art projects. Pen computing has come a long way in the last few years.
MS Word: Upgrades to Word
Everyone’s favorite word processing program has improved text-to-speech features, along with better captions and audio descriptions, high-level inking & accessibility, and improved focus mode.
All learning tools like captions & audio descriptions have been upgraded. The rest of the new Word program will be familiar and require no special training to use.
OneNote: OneNote for Windows 10
This app replaces the OneNote desktop application. It works pretty much the same as older versions of OneNote. If you prefer, you can still get the older OneNote 2016 through a Volume License Agreement.
Microsoft Access: New Updates
MS Access will have lots of new updates and upgrades, including Dark Theme, Modern Charts, Salesforce & Dynamics Connectors, and New Linked Table Manager. You’ll love the improved roaming pencil case.
The Click-To-Run version of Office 2019 will have a smaller footprint and require fewer gigabytes than other versions. Office 2019 provides five years of mainstream support, but only two additional years of extended support.
How Do You Choose?
As always, there are lots of choices when it comes to Office products. You can purchase Office 365 and always count on having the latest and coolest features right at your fingertips.
You can select a product like Office 2019 and own it outright. There are lots of pros and cons for both options. It often comes down to what will work best in your industry and for your workforce.
What’s New For Mac?
There are also some exciting changes for Mac users that include the new Focus Mode, 2D Maps for Excel and some great changes for PowerPoint.
For instance, you can enjoy SVG support, new Morph transitions, and 4K video exports, among others. There are lots of small changes with how you can customize the ribbon; these should make Office 2019 a real winner with Mac users.
Should You Update?
Unlike other Microsoft Office updates, Office 2019 is only available as a one-time purchase. You buy it and own it, and therefore you’re not entitled upgrades.
However, it will come with some excellent customer support options and the same high level of security. You’ll enjoy all the programs and tools you’ve come to love in MS Office products.
Office 365 is still a great option for businesses of any size. Unlike Office 2019, Office 365 is powered by the Microsoft Cloud. That means you will get new features as they become available. You’ll still be able to use all those collaborative features found in Office 365.
Plus, any cloud-based program can be run from any device or location. You can be sitting on a beach in Maui and still use Office 365. Of course, you might not want to do that with such a beautiful view from your lounge chair. Vacations are good for our soul!
